Cet ancien couvent a été fondé le jour de la Sainte-Cécile en 1624 pour les sœurs Bernardines, un ordre religieux aux règles très strictes.
Après sa suppression en 1792, le couvent a abrité l’armée puis successivement un dancing, un cinéma et un théâtre dans l’ancienne chapelle. Depuis 2008 le couvent, qui a été très joliment restauré, abrite le siège des Éditions Glénat.
