The Père Tasse refuge at Chamrousse 1750 - Roche Béranger, has become a high-altitude restaurant on the slopes called "La Croisette" (formerly the Malamute).
The Chalet du Père Tasse is a vestige of local cultural heritage, a symbol of mountain history and the rise of tourism in the Alps.
Extract from the book "Les 22 années du Père Tasse à Chamrousse" (Father Tasse's 22 years in Chamrousse):
In the middle of the 19th century, the heights of Chamrousse were still untouched. Only a few shepherds and hunters ventured there.
In 1863, Jules Arsène Tasse, known as "le Père Tasse", then aged forty, decided to settle up there at Roche Béranger during the good season with his wife and two children (aged ten and twelve). He built a small plank hut, which he gradually enlarged over the years, and initially devoted himself to making goat's cheese. He then transformed the chalet into a refuge where he could accommodate up to thirty people (using every nook and cranny!). As all testimonies say, the meals offered by Madame Tasse were prodigious, and the reputation of this high-altitude restaurant has continued to grow.
The Chalet du Père Tasse, an emblematic Chamrousse landmark, was later transformed into a restaurant under the name "Le Malamute". In 2025, following renovations, it reopened under the new name of "La Croisette", combining heritage and modernity.
