Close to Romagnieu's town, Nénuphards' pond extends over approximately 14 hectares.
Probably created at the end of the 18th century, This small pond is fed by the marshy area located upstream and by runoff water.
With the time, a flora and a varied fauna developped around this area.
The Vertigo de Des Moulins, an endangered snail in Europe, lives in the tufts of sedges in the pond and surrounding water spots.
The wet woodlands of the site, alder and ash groves, hide the Fougère des marais, protected in Rhône-Alpes.
Amphibians (toads, newts, salamanders) also find refuge on the site and take advantage of the fishless water points to reproduce.
The aquatic and border plants also allow dragonflies (28 species) to land before continuing their search for food or a partner to reproduce.
Nénuphars’ pond is registered in the network of the ENS of Isère since 2003. The "Vals du Dauphiné" and the commune of Romagnieu, with the support of Isère department, maintain and develop the site.
