The alluvial forest is the forest formation that has declined the most since its earliest origins. In Chonas l'Amballan, a precious example remains, stretching over 35 hectares along the Rhône at Gerbey.
The forests and plains along the Rhône represent a remarkable landscape and biological diversity. They also play an important role in flood control. By cushioning the flow of water, this type of environment helps to control flooding. These forests must be preserved for their ecological value and socio-economic functions.
The ecological value of the alluvial forest lies in its biodiversity: its wet woodlands and reed beds provide a natural habitat for birds. The diverse flora includes species such as Beaver's Epipactis, a small, very rare orchid endemic to the middle Rhône valley. The alluvial forest is also a great educational area, but fragile and difficult to preserve. The animation perimeter is limited to the clearing, with an out-and-back path to the poplar grove, passing by a small educational pond.
