Located on the hill top, the church is dominating the village of La Frette and the plain of Bièvre, where King Louis XI, in the 15th century came to hunt. The church is listed under the label “Patrimoine en Isère”.
Cet édifice dédié à Saint Ours, situé Nord-Sud, remplace au 19ème siècle l’ancienne église 17ème, située quant à elle Est-ouest, et qui fut détruite parce qu’elle était délabrée.
On la doit à l’architecte PEYRONNET. Elle fut érigée entre 1861 et 1868. Ses proportions sont vastes pour une église de village.
Qui était Saint Ours ?
URSUS (en latin) était un légionnaire romain, compagnon de Saint Maurice. Ils furent tous les deux martyrisés près d’Agaune en Suisse, sous le règne de l’empereur Maximien.
