Historical sites and museums in Grenoble

An ancient Gallo-Roman city, cradle of the French Revolution, named capital of the Alps thanks to the invention of hydroelectricity, then host of the Winter Olympics in 1968, Grenoble has always been a pioneer and innovator. Today, the capital of Isère boasts a rich historical and cultural heritage. Grenoble’s pedestrianised historic centre is an inviting place to stroll and discover its past, including the footsteps of Stendhal, who was born here. A visit to one of the city’s many museums, such as the Musée de Grenoble, with its vast art collection and major temporary exhibitions, is a must for art lovers. Don’t forget to take the cable car up to the top of the Bastille to see the beauty of the surrounding mountains.
