If you are craving conserved nature, tranquility and untamed landscapes, then you might want to give Col du Barioz a try. It offers 50 km of nordic skiing, and 2 alpine pistes, organised around a ski shack.

Its undeniable assets, apart from the prices, are its authenticity and friendliness : the Col du Barioz amenities are actually fully managed by local volunteers. The only accommodation is a mountain refuge that you can only reach on skis or snowshoes. All through the winter, welcoming evenings are set up in the snug of the refuge, with music and a traditional meal made with local produce. If you are not spending the night, there’s a group departure from the refuge at 1:00 am. Real mountain life, real adventure !
